Anthony Clark Arend

Anthony Clark Arend is Professor of Government and Foreign Service, and Director of the Master of Science in Foreign Service Program in the Walsh School of Foreign Service. With Professor Christopher C. Joyner, he founded the Institute for International Law & Politics at Georgetown and served as co-director of the Institute from 2003-2008. He is also an adjunct professor of law at the Georgetown University Law Center.

Dr. Arend's teaching and research interests are in the areas of international law, international organization, international relations, international legal philosophy, and foreign relations law. His publications include six books, among them Legal Rules and International Society and International Law and the Use of Force: Beyond the UN Charter Paradigm (co-authored). He is currently co-editing a book with Mark Lagon entitled, Human Dignity and the Future of Global Institutions. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
