John Langan, S.J., has been the Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Professor of Catholic Social Thought at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics since 1997, and is a professor in the Department of Philosophy at Georgetown. He is currently writing a manuscript, “Questioning War,” on fundamental questions in just war theory. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of the Georgetown University Press and is a member of the board of Georgetown University Hospital. In 2005 he served as president of the Society for Christian Ethics, the largest organization in North America for religious ethicists. From 2006 to 2011 he served as the rector of the Jesuit community at Georgetown University.
