Visiting Associate Professor and Director of Teaching, Center for Security Studies
Robert Egnell (PhD London) is Visiting Professor and Director of Teaching at Georgetown University's Center for Security Studies. He is also the founding director of the Stockholm Center for Strategic Studies. Previous positions include being an Associate Professor at the Swedish National Defence College, a Senior Researcher at the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI), and an assistant lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Robert's research currently focuses on Human Security and the protection of civilians in conflict and post-conflict societies. More generally, his research has focused on different aspects of the conduct and effectiveness of international peace operations and post-conflict peace building. He is the author of Complex peace operations and civil-military relations: Winning the peace (Routledge, 2009), Counterinsurgency in crisis: Britain and the challenges of modern warfare (Columbia UP, forthcoming 2013), and New agendas in statebuilding: Hybridity, contingency and history (Routledge, 2013).
